Week of the Young Child & Autism Awareness Month

In Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Literacy & Social Development by Kerry Ward

In the month of April, the BHSC Early Childhood Program celebrated the Week of the Young Child and Autism Awareness Month.  Throughout April, we raised awareness for autism, we also celebrated the joys and importance of early childhood education during the Week of the Young Child.  This special week emphasized the need to provide young children with high quality early learning experiences that set the foundation for their success.

As we reflect on April, let’s continue to promote understanding inclusivity and support for neurodiverse learners while also recognizing the vital role of early childhood education shaping bright futures for our youngest learners.

During the Week of the Young Child, the classroom teams at all our sites planned fun events for the student and staff wearing crazy clothing, bringing in therapy dogs, and having loads of fun with our students to celebrate.

Our classrooms continue to participate with other organizations to celebrate our students, as our Fredonia location partnered with the United Way of Northern Chautauqua County to read books with our students and books were sent home with each of the children.

To celebrate autism awareness, Volpe Supply Employees volunteered at the Sweet Home Road location to come into paint and decorate pots and pans to add musical instruments to the current playground.

The Lockport site in conjunction with the YWCA and Lockport City Schools, celebrated Dr. Suess Literacy Week followed up a literacy night for an author meet and greet, crafts, story time, book fair from Lock City Books and the Yum Yum Food Truck for some extra sweet treats.  Thank you to everyone who joined in the celebrations and advocated for the well-being of all children
