General Questions

Buffalo Hearing & Speech Center’s licensed audiologists are often asked many questions about Hearing Aids.

1. What is a Hearing Aid Evaluation and why do I need one? During a hearing aid evaluation a licensed audiologist will meet with you. You will be given a hearing test. After the test you will meet with the audiologist to go over your hearing healthcare needs. This takes approximately one hour.

2. What is an Audiologist? An audiologist is a healthcare professional that specializes in the evaluation and non-medical rehabilitation of hearing disorders. All Buffalo Hearing & Speech Center audiologists are state-licensed.

3. Do I need two hearing aids? In general, most people are hearing impaired in both ears. If there is no medical reason that would prevent you from wearing two hearing aids, then binaural (both ears) amplification will be recommended. A Buffalo Hearing & Speech Center audiologist will make this recommendation based on your hearing test results and other circumstances discussed during your Hearing Aid Evaluation.

4. How does a hearing aid work? It amplifies sounds and people’s voices to allow you to hear better. Following your evaluation if you purchase a hearing aid Buffalo Hearing & Speech Center will provide follow up care for you. Buffalo Hearing & Speech Center also carries hearing aid batteries.
